For Participation and Recording: Perception of risk relating to modern slavery within business entities

The Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), a development partner of the private sector is dedicated to strengthening democratic governance by improving private sector advocacy efforts and capacity to create an enabling business environment.

In this project, CIPE seeks to enhance the understanding of the nuanced perceived risks associated with labour standards with particular focus on modern slavery within business operations and supply chains in Africa.  To this end, CIPE has commissioned a comparative study of business practices and systems in Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa to appreciate the strengths and opportunities for minimizing modern slavery and other labour violations.   The research will be used by CIPE to actively reduce labour violations in Africa through private sector advocacy and capacity development efforts. The specific information collected in this study would be reported anonymously and the strictest level of confidentiality will be kept. That said, if your organisation chooses, CIPE would like to give your organization public credit for participating and contributing to the sustainable development goals in any public mention of this study.

CIPE has engaged Collective Value Creation (CVC) to undertake this study which would require CVC to meet with key heads of units and managers virtually to conduct interviews between November 2021 through May 2022. CVC will be conducting one interview per respondent and each interview will last for a total of 45 minutes to 1 hour. All the data will be stored anonymously on an encrypted GDPR compliance cloud database. The data from the interview will be kept for 1 year from the publishing date of the research findings. Only the direct research team involved in the research will have access to the data.

If you have any questions or concerns related to this interview, please feel free to contact Orla Ollewagen at, email address orla@collectivevaluecreation.co.za
