When you are just starting out on your entrepreneurial journey it can be really tough to find the motivation to set goals and stick to them. Staying motivated is easier said than done. Start with why you wanted to become an entrepreneur in the first place. Remind yourself of this daily. Put it on a sticky note and look at it every morning when you wake up. Remember there was a reason for why you left the corporate world in the place. Often these small reminders can help bring clarity on a journey that is filled with uncertainty. 

How to stay motivated

You may have started your business because there was an opportunity on the market. Some quit when they find it’s too hard. But if you’ve started your business because you wanted to make an impact, you’re likely in it for the long haul. it’s really important to be passionate about your business. If you’re not in love with what you do, it’s going to be even more difficult to stay motivated. There are many moments on an entrepreneur’s journey that can be lonely and difficult. You may face times of self-doubt, but your passion and conviction will ensure you stay on track. 

Create a mission statement

Your mission statement is a summary of your goals and values. Take the time to create your mission statement. This follows closely from knowing your passion and the reason why you created your business. If at any point you are feeling demotivated, pull out your mission statement and review your reason for being. Be mindful of why you started.

Know that failure is part and parcel

Accept that failure is part and parcel of your journey. This will mentally prepare you for these tough times. Have a plan for the inevitable hiccups that will occur to ensure you stay on track. Although failure may occur, it’s important to focus on the positives too. Maintain focused and appreciate the smaller victories.

Garner support from those around you

No one can move mountains on their own. Being an entrepreneur means that you will likely have a lot on your plate. This can be both mentally and physically draining. It’s important that you surround yourself with a positive network. This can be in the form of other entrepreneurs, family as well as mentors. Meet on occasion with like-minded people, look at joining book clubs and network events. 

Be accountable

While support can be beneficial, self-motivation is key. Team up with someone to ensure that you hold yourself accountable. Use this time to bounce ideas off of each other. It can also be a great source of energy and help you stay motivated. Leverage off of the success stories of others. There are hundreds, if not thousands of success stories that can help you stay motivated.

In conclusion

Remember, as an entrepreneur you cannot focus all of your energy alone on your work. You have to create inspiration outside of work too. Look at what brings you joy and find activities that can uplift you. Make sure you find the time to reward yourself. Look at booking yourself a spa day or organize dinner and drinks with your loved ones or friends.
